Beautiful Mothers Day Greeting Cards

Firstly there are gorgeous Mothers Day greeting cards available in my art shop. They have been specially created from watercolour paintings of the lovely quirky wildlife I get to observe, sketch and paint on a regular basis. I’m lucky enough to live in the rolling hills of Shropshire and so I’m surrounded by fields and woodlands filled with wonderful wildlife. These wildlife animals are the inspiration behind the Mothers Day greeting cards.

With each of the Mothers Day greeting cards I created a little verse. These sweet little verses helped promote these gorgeous wildlife cards on my social media platforms. Hopefully they reflect the special meaning our mothers have for us and are a lovely compliment to the watercolour art I created.

Valentines greeting cards

Valentines Greeting Cards for 2019

First of all, there is a growing range of beautiful wildlife Valentines greeting cards in my art shop. Each greeting card design has been specially created, to reflect the beauty in nature and all the gorgeous wildlife I get to see.

I don’t have much free time, being a watercolour artist my abilities are pulled in all directions, from creating illustrations, watercolour commissions, one off special designs and painting watercolour landscapes, botanical watercolours and wildlife watercolour paintings. So my spare time is spent being outdoors amongst the wild places, photographing, observing, sketching and painting the flora and fauna and the wildlife. Therefore if I’m not painting in the studio, I’m out and about observing and painting!

Wildlife watercolours with tender loving scenes

For the Valentines greeting cards I have used all my wildlife and botanical resources to create a beautiful range of Valentines cards that express tender loving moments. All the wildlife watercolour cards show the wonderful quirky behaviour of all the animals I observe. Painting Pine Marten greeting cards

Adorable Pine Marten Greeting Cards

I’ve recently added Pine Marten greeting cards to my growing collection of wildlife greeting cards. Pine Martens are adorable to look at, but can have a nasty bite if they feel hemmed in or threatened. You generally don’t see them in the day, they start appearing just before dusk. You have more chance of seeing them in Scotland, near or in woodland.

The Pine Martens are very partial to jam, so if you’re thinking of going in search of them, have some jam handy. I know there are holiday cottages in Scotland, that say they have sightings of pine martens in their gardens. So smear some jam on a slice of bread at dusk, place it in the garden on a ledge, branch or rock and wait and see if they turn up!

Creating Pine Marten Watercolour Designs

As a watercolour artist I have been studying and sketching Pine Martens for awhile. I used all sorts of references (including research conducted by individuals as well as societies) to help me understand them more. Also I’ve been out trying to track them down in the woodlands of Scotland. A lot of patience is needed to study these beautiful elusive animals. They are definitely worth the effort, because when you see them with their thick chocolate coloured fur, curling bushy tail and pin sharp eyes, you know you’re seeing something special.

I have used my own photograph resources and pencil sketches to help create watercolour paintings of the Pine Marten. There are hours and days of work that go into creating these watercolour cards.

Layers of watercolour brushstrokes on Pine Marten

First I paint with light washes of watercolour and then I start to add darker tones. I use small short brushstrokes of paint to create a sense of fur movement. The Pine Marten Greeting Cards have lots of layers of paint to show how luxurious their fur coats are. There are hundreds of brushstrokes applied to each wildlife watercolour painting.

Collection of 12 Pine Marten Greeting Cards

I have painted a collection of 12 watercolour greeting cards designs for the Pine Marten card collection. I have tried to reflect on their behaviour, their posture and have placed them in locations that you usually find them. They are clever and curious little animals, that deserve our support and appreciation.

In this post I show the process of painting two of the Pine Marten watercolour paintings. There are also paintings of pine marten couples, surrounded by wildflowers and also a painting of a pine marten with her playful kits. Pine Martens discovered in Shropshire

I’m a Shropshire artist, so I try to keep up to date with all the wildlife news that’s happening in Shropshire. Its been lovely to hear, that the pine marten has recently (2015) been discovered in Shropshire. For over 100 years they were thought to be extinct in Shropshire. The Shropshire Wildlife Trust is raising funds to carry out research and monitor the pine martens activity.
